- Presenting Mrs. Jana Rago -

“Navigating life comes with daily responsibilities and challenges;  relationships, work issues, health concerns, global issues.  I choose to be wise about the things that I can and cannot change.  I find the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”      - Jana Rago

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.

I  married my college sweetheart 32 years ago. Vincent and I moved to Sonoma county twenty years ago where we have raised our two children, Philip (20), and Elise (15). I’ve been a registered nurse for thirty-seven years. I am passionate about my work as a Healthcare Professional. Early on in my career, my specialty was as a Labor and Delivery Nurse, assisting families throughout the birth process. I cared for women during both normal and complicated pregnancies. After starting a family of my own I shifted my focus to Surgical Nursing, caring for patients before, during, and after surgical procedures.

What do you love most about being a nurse?

Nursing as a career is challenging, different, and interesting every day, I am able to apply some of my own values to the patients I care for;  caring, understanding, nonjudgemental, and most importantly empathy. I help provide comfort to my patients through unfamiliar and stressful experiences. I enjoy making even a small difference in people's lives everyday.

Who has inspired you most? How have they impacted the person you have become?

Growing up I was inspired by my Aunt Dolores. She was full of grace, confidence, and compassion. She was a labor and delivery nurse and OR Nurse as well. I loved hearing her stories and aspired to be like her.

What is the best thing that happened to you this year?

I am most grateful for the unforeseen time that my family has spent together while sheltering at home.

There are so many different outlooks when it comes to the meaning of success. What does success look like to you?

To me, success is setting my own goals and achieving them with integrity.

What are some things the public might not be aware of when it comes to working in health care?

The well being and emotional resilience of health care workers is key to maintaining healthcare services, especially during Cocid-19 this year.

What do you look forward to doing in your free time? Do you have any hobbies or a hobby that you would like to get into?

Being creative is an important part of my emotional and psychological well being.  I have projects and hobbies including gardening, baking, and my favorite, sewing. Sewing allows me to apply creativity and problem solving to my projects. Most recently I have perfected and sewn hundreds of face masks and given them to friends, family, small businesses, and those working in the hospitality industry. In the near future, I’d like to make time for more piano playing and learn to play the ukulele.

What essentials are in your Frankie Cameron braided tote bag?

I LOVE my Frankie Cameron mini clutch! It’s the perfect size to fit my wallet, phone, lip gloss, and key. I carry it everywhere I go! I think every girl needs one! When I’m in need of a larger bag and when traveling I carry the Braid Bag. I bought one with a baby liner (even though my children are grown). It helps me keep my content organized and easy to find.
